Appointed head of the new Paris police force, Vidocq has to deal with the “chauffeurs du Nord”, a gang of farm robbers, royalist murders and riots in Toulon. But his main threat is the Baroness, who heads up the “Knights of the Night” organization, which is multiplying its plots against him.
Vidocq, to everyone's surprise, has become head of the Sûreté Nationale. One of his former chain-mates, Desfossé, is compromised in a murder case.
